    train -> develop -> compete on a higher level

    Youth Millers (12-14U)

    These are the transition years. Adapting to changing field sizes and rules, growth spurts, and stepping into a world where full baseball rules have been played since age 7. If you’re ready at 12, 13 or 14, it is about finding out when your ready to play against the same or better talent and how you adapt and compete. At the end of this stage, it’s about being prepared for the 90′ field, high school and the national stage of competition to see how good you are and what you still need to work on.

    PROGRAM OPTIONS

    see the NATIONAL LEVEL

    summer season

    Play against the best in the region and country to see where you’re at and compete/adapt & keep working

    Most common reasons players come to club here:
    12U: better competition or your city only provides AA
    13U: professional coaches; get ready for 90′ in Fall
    14U: almost all are club; want to get a head start on the national stage, high school and recruiting.

    fall season

    New field sizes, new rules -> learn & compete to get an edge on Summer

    The more time on the next Summer’s field size, the greater the development.

    Focus is on development & competing on new field sizes so local tournaments and training/practice are key.

    12U Bats

    12U USSSA or USA:

    No Drop Limit
    (-10 or -8 recommended)

    13U Bats

    13U USSSA or USA:

    Drop limit is -8

    We do play in some wood bat tourneys (PG) so have a good composite

    14U Bats

    14U USSSA or USA:

    Drop Limit is -5 (Some are -3)

    We do play in some wood bat tourneys (PG) so have a good composite

    We play on all types of surfaces and pitching mounds. Therefore, all players should have 3 types of shoes for playing:

    • Metal cleats
    • Molds or plastics
    • Turf shoes (with rubber grippers on bottom – New Balance are best)

    A players’ age group is determined by the school year. Fall starts the beginning of the year for a player (12U Fall = 12U Summer). After Summer, a player moves up to the next year (i.e. Summer 12U = Fall 13U). 14U players in the Summer move on to the High School Millers program (15U Fall).

    Noteable field/development changes from Summer to Fall with ages:

    11U Summer -> 12U Fall

    • Bases: 60′ to 70/75′
    • Mound: 46′ to 52′
    • Leading off/stealing (if play assoc in Summer)

    13U Summer -> 14U Fall

    • Bases: full 90′ field
    • Mound: 52′ to 60′ 6″
    • Double cuts
    • 1B/3B cut not SS/P
    • Hardest transition given growth spurt or not

    14U Summer -> 15U Fall

    • Speed of game = high school execution now
    • Reason for 14U Summer = more time vs. higher level competition so ready for high school level
    • Working to take Varsity spot in Spring

    MILLER PROGRESSION

    Players progress through each stage and from stage to stage as Millers

    ROOKIE MILLERS 9U-11U

    GAMES -> SKILLS -> DEVELOP

    FOCUS:  PHASE 1 & 2

    These are the development stages.  Players will learn the fundamentals of the game and how to adjust and compete after tough competition challenges them physically and mentally to develop their game.  Club Travel is perfect fit as we have more time to see the development over multiple seasons and with in-season training to stay up to date on their needs.

    Learning the game, competing, getting dirty and having fun!

    YOUTH MILLERS 12U-14U

    TRAIN -> DEVELOP -> COMPETE

    FOCUS:  GET TO PHASE 3 & 4

    These are the adjustment levels as players grow the most and the field changes on them so making routine and handling the speed fluctuates at times.  Summer of 13U into Fall of 14U is the toughest transition at all ages.  Millers starts 13U on big field in July to get them used to the change as fast as possible.

    Millers add the Training program to gain speed/strength, power and velocity through more efficient movements

    HS MILLERS 15U-18U

    DEVELOP -> COMPETE -> EXPOSURE

    FOCUS:  PHASE 4 & COLLEGE FIT

    Players who graduate from the Millers program will have opportunities to play at the collegiate level.   Players that put the work in here and trust the process knock down the most doors for themselves for the next level.

    Recruiting process education and ADVISING is included with Millers in these stages.  PBR showcases to increase metrics and rankings are also included.
